Self-exclusion in Rhode Island

How to put yourself on Rhode Island's self-exclusion list, what it covers, and what it does not.

Programme
Two separate things at two levels. The Rhode Island Lottery offers 'Self-Exclusion & Timeout' inside an iLottery account: 'Self-Exclusion allows you to take a break from gambling for either 1 year or 5 years. During this time you will be unable to log in to your iLottery account.' Separately, state law puts a self-exclusion duty on the casinos themselves rather than on a state list.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
Covers online betting
Yes for the Lottery's own online account: self-exclusion blocks you from logging in to your iLottery account, and 'While the Self-Exclusion is in place, we'll do our best to not send you any marketing materials. Please allow 48 hours for this to take effect.'The page is written entirely about the iLottery account. It does not say whether this also blocks Rhode Island's sports betting app or the casinos' own online products, so do not assume it does โ€” ask Player Support on 1-800-288-2485 before relying on it.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
Covers casinos and shops
Not by the Lottery's online tool. For the casinos, Rhode Island law requires the gaming facilities themselves to run the scheme: Twin River and Twin River-Tiverton must provide compulsive and problem gambling programs 'in cooperation with the State' that include a 'Player self-exclusion program', alongside employee awareness training, promotion of a problem gambling hotline and responsible gambling education. The requirement extends to 'table games, sports wagering, and iGaming to the extent such games are authorized'.webserver.rilegislature.gov, checked 3 October 2026
Covers the lottery
Online lottery play only. The Lottery's self-exclusion is described purely as losing the ability to log in to your iLottery account; nothing on its responsible gambling pages offers a way to stop buying lottery tickets in shops.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
How long you can choose
For Self-Exclusion, two choices: '1 year' or '5 years'. The separate, shorter Timeout 'allows you to take a break from gambling for a predefined period' chosen from a list that runs up to 9 months.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
Can it be undone
No: 'Please note you will not be able to reverse the Self-Exclusion during the period entered.' The same is said of Timeout.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
What happens when it ends
It ends by itself, and the account comes back on its own: 'At the end of the selected Self-Exclusion period, your login privileges will automatically be restored.'This is the sentence most likely to catch someone out in Rhode Island. The iLottery block is a timer, not a standing ban: nobody asks whether you are ready, your login simply works again after a year or five years, and if you want the protection to continue you must set it again. The same automatic restoration is stated for Timeout. The casino-side self-exclusion is a different programme and its terms are set by the gaming facility, not published here.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026
How you sign up
In your account or over the phone: 'If you'd like to activate a Timeout or Self-Exclusion, you may log in to initiate that yourself, or call Player Support at 1-800-288-2485 for assistance.' You then pick the period and confirm; 'Your Responsible Gambling settings have been updated, and you'll be logged out of your account.' For the casinos, the self-exclusion programme is run by the gaming facility, so you ask Bally's Twin River or Bally's Tiverton directly.rilot.com, checked 3 October 2026

Start Rhode Island's form

Worth knowing before you start

Rhode Island runs its casino gambling through the Lottery, but it does not run the casino self-exclusion list: the statute makes that the gaming facility's programme, provided 'in cooperation with the State', and we could find no form, term list or enrolment page for it published by the Lottery. So if you want to be barred from Bally's Twin River or Bally's Tiverton โ€” the video lottery terminals, table games, stadium gaming and the retail sportsbook โ€” you have to arrange it with the casino and get the term and the expiry in writing. One hard edge applies either way: 'A person who is prohibited from gaming in a gaming establishment due to the player self-exclusion program shall not collect any winnings or recover losses', and those winnings are forfeited to the Lottery, with up to $150,000 a year passed to the Rhode Island Council on Problem Gambling. Treatment is available through Problem Gambling Services on 1-401-499-2472, with or without insurance.

Done? The rest of the hour: blockers, a bank block, closing the accounts, telling one person.
