Self-exclusion in Alabama

How to put yourself on Alabama's self-exclusion list, what it covers, and what it does not.

Programme
None. Alabama runs no state self-exclusion programme, and there is no state gaming commission to run one. Casino gaming in Alabama is conducted by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and regulated by its own Tribal Gaming Commission, which 'is the entity established by the Tribal Council to regulate the conduct and play of gaming on the Tribe's Reservation Lands, which currently consists of the three Alabama properties of Wind Creek Atmore, Wind Creek Montgomery, and Wind Creek Wetumpka.' Any ban in Alabama is therefore an arrangement with the casino operator or the Tribal Gaming Commission, not an entry on a statewide list.pci-tgc.org, checked 3 October 2026
Covers online betting
No state programme covers it, because no state programme exists. Note the trap: Wind Creek operates an online casino of its own, and the operator's Responsible Gambling page sets out no self-exclusion or self-ban process at all - it defines problem gambling, lists ten screening questions, and refers you to the National Problem Gambling Helpline on 1-800-522-4700. To shut an online account you have to deal with the operator directly.windcreek.com, checked 3 October 2026
Covers casinos and shops
No state programme covers it. The three Alabama casinos - Wind Creek Atmore, Wind Creek Montgomery and Wind Creek Wetumpka - sit on the Tribe's reservation lands and are regulated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Tribal Gaming Commission rather than by the state. The Commission's own site directs regulatory matters about Wind Creek properties outside Alabama to 'the state gaming commissions or regulatory authorities in which they are located', which is the only regulator route it offers.pci-tgc.org, checked 3 October 2026
Covers the lottery
Not applicable: Alabama has no state lottery to be excluded from. The state constitution provides that 'The legislature shall have no power to authorize lotteries or gift enterprises for any purposes, and shall pass laws to prohibit the sale in this state of lottery or gift enterprise tickets, or tickets in any scheme in the nature of a lottery.'Section 65 of the Alabama Constitution of 1901, read from an archived copy of the Legislature's own Alison database (snapshot 2023-06-07) because the live alisondb pages did not respond to us. Alabama recompiled its constitution in 2022 and the section numbering can move, so if the precise citation matters to you, confirm it with the Legislative Services Agency. The substance - no state lottery exists in Alabama - is not in doubt.alisondb.legislature.state.al.us (archived copy of 7 June 2023), checked 3 October 2026
How long you can choose
Not applicable: there is no state list, so the state sets no term lengths. A ban agreed with Wind Creek runs on whatever terms that operator applies, and the operator's Responsible Gambling page publishes none.windcreek.com, checked 3 October 2026
Can it be undone
Not applicable: there is no state exclusion to reverse. Whether a ban agreed with a tribal casino can be lifted, and on what terms, is the operator's decision, and no published page states it.windcreek.com, checked 3 October 2026
What happens when it ends
Not applicable: there is no state exclusion, so nothing expires at state level. If you arrange a ban with a tribal casino, ask at the time whether it ends by itself or stays until you ask for it to be lifted, and get the answer in writing - neither the Tribal Gaming Commission's site nor the operator's Responsible Gambling page says. This is the field most likely to catch someone out in a state with no statutory scheme: an operator-level ban is a private arrangement, and the operator controls both its length and its ending. Because nothing is published, treat anything you are told verbally as unconfirmed until you have it in writing.windcreek.com, checked 3 October 2026
How you sign up
There is no state form. In practice: ask at the casino itself, or contact the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Tribal Gaming Commission, 5825 Hwy 21, Atmore, AL 36502, (251) 368-1811. The Commission's public e-forms list carries only gaming licence applications, employment and vendor forms, and a 72-hour incident form - there is no patron self-exclusion form published on it, so expect to have to ask rather than download anything.pci-tgc.org, checked 3 October 2026

Worth knowing before you start

Alabama is a genuine no-scheme state, and that is the answer rather than a gap in our research: there is no statewide list, no state gaming commission, and no state lottery. What actually works here, in rough order of how firmly it holds: (1) Ask the casino to ban you. The three Alabama casinos are Wind Creek properties regulated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Tribal Gaming Commission (251-368-1811); a property ban is the only thing resembling exclusion available in-state. Be aware that the operator's own Responsible Gambling page describes no self-exclusion process whatsoever and offers only the National Problem Gambling Helpline on 1-800-522-4700, so you will be asking for something that is not advertised - ask for written confirmation of what you have been given and how long it lasts. (2) Close the online account directly with the operator, since Wind Creek runs its own online casino and no state list reaches it. (3) Bank and card-level gambling blocks and blocking software are unaffected by any of this and are the most reliable layer available to someone in Alabama. One further caution: Wind Creek operates properties in several other states, and a ban agreed with one property may or may not travel to the others - ask explicitly, because nothing published says either way.

Done? The rest of the hour: blockers, a bank block, closing the accounts, telling one person.
